GeekSoc is honoured to host a talk by Strathclyde Engineering dept.'s HPC officer. It will cover the new HPC being installed in the engineering department, and the problems they hope to solve. It will be held during the normal meeting slot in December, Thursday 3th, 2009

Afterwards:

We had an okay turnout... and everyone who did was certainly interested in great talk given by Dr Richard Martin. A very good overview of the new Sun based supercomputer was presented, and the hardware behind the 13 Teraflops machine was revealed. We also had some good Q&A throughout the talk.

After the talk, we talked some *nix and troubleshooted an install of Ubuntu.

Look out for a possible second talk with more on the science to be done in October 2010!
